Rupert Murdoch is an Australian-born American media mogul. Through his company News Corp, he is the owner of hundreds of local, national, and international publishing outlets around the world, including The Sun and The Times in the UK, The Daily Telegraph and The Australian in Australia, The Wall Street Journal and The New York Post in the US, book publisher HarperCollins, and the television broadcasting channels Sky News Australia and Fox News (through the Fox Corporation). He was also the owner of Sky (until 2018), 21st Century Fox (until 2019), and the now-defunct News of the World.
After starting his career as the owner of a relatively small newspaper in Adelaide, Murdoch eventually branched out and focused heavily on international markets, especially in the United States. By 1985, he had renounced his Australian citizenship, becoming a naturalized US citizen for business reasons.

In 2003, Rupert Murdoch was reportedly the 54th-richest person in the world with a net worth of $5.4 billion. A few years later, his standing among billionaires began to slip, and Murdoch was reportedly the 117th-richest person in the world with a net worth of $6.3 billion.
